Ragi rava idli
Ingredients
Ragi rava ( finger millet//nachni)—1 cup
Urad dhal (uddina belle// black gram)—1 cup
Menthya kaalu ( fenugreek seeds//methi dana)—2 teaspoons
Salt —to taste
Water
Equipment — wet grinder or mixer grinder,idli plates
To prepare batter
Wash and soak urad dhal along with menthya kaalu in 3 cups of water for 5 to 6 hours.
Wash ragi rava ,add just enough water to soak and keep it aside ,in a different vessel for 5 to 6 hours.
Next grind the urad dhal along with menthya kaalu adding required amount of water in a grinder into a smooth paste.
Transfer the ground paste to a big container .
Then add the ragi rava,to the batter and mix well.
Cover it with the lid and let it ferment overnight.
Next day batter doubles,mix well adding salt.
To prepare idlis.
Grease the idli plates with oil,pour a laddle full of batter into it.
Place them in the pressure cooker or steamer and steam for 10 to 12 minutes or till done on medium flame .
Turn off the heat.
Take out the idli plates.
Let it cool for 5 minutes.
Serve the healthy idlis with chutney,sambar,butter.
