Sowthekayi (cucumber) avalakki oggarane

 


Ingredients

Cucumber ( sowthekayi)—3 small

 Avalakki ( poha// flattened rice)—3 cups 

You can also use thin variety poha(avallaki)

Fresh grated coconut ( kayi turi//nariyal)—2 to 3 tablespoon 
Lemon juice (nimbe rasa)—2 tablespoon 
Salt—to taste
Sugar—1 teaspoon 
 Coriander leaves (kothambari soppu//hara dhaniya)—2 tablespoon 


For seasoning (oggarane)

oil—2 tablespoon 
Sasive (mustard seeds//rai)—1 teaspoon 
Jeera (jeerige//cumin seeds)—1 teaspoon 
Asafoetida (hing//ingu)—1/2 teaspoon 

Channa dhal (kadale bele)—1 tablespoon 
Urad dhal (uddina belle)—1 tablespoon 
Green chillies ( hasiru menasina kayi//hari mirch)—2 to 3
Curry leaves (karibevu//kadipatta)—few

Method 

Wash the sowthekayi and peel the skin and chop into small pieces.
Heat oil in a pan or kadai, once hot enough add sasive,jeerige,when it crackles add channa  and urad dhal, hing,curry leaves and green chillies and sauté on medium flame till dhals turns brown.
Switch off the stove.keep it aside.

Let it cool.
Add in chopped cucumber,grated coconut,salt,sugar,chopped coriander leaves.
Mix well.

Just rinse poha  in water once and drain water completely.
If you are using thin avalakki no need to rinse it,you can use it directly add in lemon juice .
Mix everything well together.
Delicious cucumber avalakki is ready to eat.
