Om kaalu (ajwain) saaru






Ingredients

Om kaalu (ajwain// carom seeds)—1 teaspoon 
Jeera (jeerige//cumin Seeds)—1 teaspoon 
Coriander seeds (kothambari bija//sabut dhaniya)—1 teaspoon 
Black pepper corns (kaalu menasu)—1 teaspoon 

Dry red chillies (ona menasina kayi// lal mirch)—2
Curry leaves (karibevu//kadipatta)—few
Soaked tamarind in water (hunase hannu//imli)—small  lemon sized 
Jaggery (bella//gud)—small lemon sized 
Water—3 cups
Salt—to taste

Coriander leaves (kothambari soppu)—chopped—1 tablespoon 

For seasoning 

Ghee( tuppa)—1 tablespoon 
Sasive (mustard seeds)—1 teaspoon 
Jeera (jeerige//cumin seeds)—1 teaspoon 
Asafoetida (hing//ingu)—1 teaspoon 

Method 

Firstly  coarsely powder om kaalu,jeerige,pepper corns,coriander seeds.

Heat ghee in a pan or kadai,on medium flame.
Once hot add sasive,jeerige,hing,when it crackles add broken red chillies and karibevu.
Then add  ground powder,saute for few seconds on low flame.
Then add  squeezed tamarind water,jaggery and salt.
Allow it to boil adding water on medium flame.
Once boiled well switch off the stove and add chopped coriander leaves.

Tasty om saaru is ready to serve.
Serve pipping hot with cooked rice or even drink it as soup.
