Avalakki ( poha) sooji rotti

 


Ingredients

Avalakki ( poha// flattened rice)—11/2 cup
Sooji ( rava//semolina)—1 cup

Jeera (jeerige//cumin seeds)—1 tablespoon 
Black pepper powder—1 teaspoon ( or green chilli)
Salt —to taste 
Oil—for smear on rotti

Carrot grated—1/2 cup
Finely chopped onions —1/2 cup
Finely chopped cabbage—1/2 cup
Fresh grated coconut ( kayi turi// nariyal)—1/2 cup
Ginger grated—1 teaspoon 
Coriander leaves ( kothambari soppu)-chopped—2 to 3 tablespoon 
( you can vegetables  or greens ( soppu ) of your choice)

Method 

Wash the avalakki,add  water  just to immerse avalakki and soak for 10 minutes.
Add water to sooji and soak for 10 minutes in separate container.

After 10 minutes mash together avalakki and sooji together well with your hands.
Add all the other ingredients and except oil and knead the dough.
Don’t add any water.
Keep it aside covered for five minutes.

Grease the pan or tava,spread  a big lemon  sized dough evenly ( thin) with wet fingers.
Smear little oil all over and on rotti and cook on medium flame,covering with a lid.
Cook till crisp and light brown  and serve hot with chutney,or sauce.
