Kiru Nelli kayi thokku ( amla chutney)
Ingredients
Kiru Nelli kayi ( amla //goose berries//star shaped amla//gooseberry )—1 cup
( you can take either small Nelli kayi or big ones( bettada Nelli kayi)
If you are taking big ones take 8 to 10.
Green chillies (hasiru menasina kayi//hari mirch)—5
Menthya kaalu (methi dana//fenugreek seeds)—1 tablespoon
Asafoetida (hing//ingu)—1 teaspoon
Turmeric powder (arisina//haldi)—1 teaspoon
Salt—to taste
Method
Wash the Nelli kayi and pat dry completely.
Chop or grate the Nelli kayi.
Deseed them.
Dry roast the menthya kaalu on low flame until it starts spluttering and turns to light brown .do not burn it.
Let it cool completely.
Now transfer it to the mixer grinder jar and powder it.
Next add all the other ingredients and grind it to paste.( little coarsely)
Do not add water.
Transfer to a bowl .
Now prepare for seasoning (oggarane)
Oil—1 tablespoon
Sasive (mustard seeds//rai)—1 teaspoon
Heat oil in a laddle when hot enough add sasive,when it crackles pour over thokku and mix well.
Serve with hot rice or you can make like chitranna with this chutney.
If you are preparing in large quantity and want to store for more days ,then refrigerate it in a glass jar.
