Akki uppittu ( rice upma)

 


Ingredients 

Sona masoori rice —1 cup

Onion(irulli//pyaz) chopped—2 cups ( 3 medium sized)
Green chillies (hasiru menasina kayi//hari mirch)—4 to 5
Or you can take 2 dry red chillies + 4 chillies 
Fresh grated coconut—1/2 cup

Ginger (shunti//adarak)—small piece 
Coriander leaves (kothambari soppu)—2 tablespoon chopped 
Curry leaves (karibevu//kadipatta)—few
Lemon—1 
Salt—to taste 
Sugar—1 teaspoon 
Water—1 cup + 1 1/4 cup

Oil—3 to 4 tablespoon 
Sasive (mustard seeds//rai)—1 teaspoon 
Jeera (jeerige//cumin seeds)—1 teaspoon 
Asafoetida (hing//ingu)—1 teaspoon 
Channa dhal (kadale belle)—1 tablespoon 
Uddina belle (urad dhal)—1 tablespoon 

Method 

Wash the rice and soak it in one cup of water for 15 minutes.

Heat oil in a pressure cooker,once’s hot enough add sasive, jeerige.
When it crackles add kadale belle and uddina belle and hing.
Sauté on medium flame till dhals turns brown.
Add both chopped green and dry red chillies.
Add in curry leaves and sauté.
Next add in chopped onion and fry till translucent.

Then add soaked rice along with water.
Add 1 1/4 cup of water ,salt,sugar and mix well.
Close the cooker lid and pressure cook for 2 whistles on medium flame.

Once the pressure reduces open the lid and add grated coconut,chopped coriander leaves and lemon juice.
Mix well together gently.
Tasty akki uppittu is ready for serving.
Serve hot.
