Oralukallu chitranna ( kayi sasive chitranna)

Ingredients 

Rice —1 cup

Ingredients for grinding masala 

Fresh grated coconut ( tengina turi)—1/2 cup
Dry red  chillies—4
Tamarind ( hunase hannu//imli)—small lemon size 
Mustard seeds (sasive)—2 teaspoon 
Jaggery powder (Bella//gud)-1 tablespoon 
Turmeric powder (arisina//haldi)—1 teaspoon 

Ingredients for seasoning (oggarane)

Oil— 2 tablespoon 
Sasive (mustard seeds)—1 teaspoon 
Jeera ( jeerige// cumin seeds)—1 teaspoon 
Channa dhal (kadale belle)—1 tablespoon 
Urad dhal (uddina belle)—1 tablespoon 
Asafoetida ( hing//ingu)—1 teaspoon 
Kadale kayi bija ( ground nuts// peanuts)—handful 
Curry leaves (karibevu//kadipatta)—few

Salt to taste.

Method 

Wash and cook rice in pressure cooker for 3 whistles.
Don’t make it mushy.
For 1 cup rice add 2 1/2 cup water, so that the grains are separate.
Keep it aside for 10 minutes to cool .

Grind all the ingredients together listed for grinding in a mixer grinder jar without adding water to a coarse powder.

Heat oil in a  thick bottomed kadai  or pan ,once hot add mustard seeds and jeera.
When they crackles add both kadale belle and uddina belle and kadale kayi bija,karibevu,and hing.
Keep sautéing on medium flame till dhals turn brown and kadale kayi bija becomes crisp.

Next add in ground coarse masala and saute for few minutes.
Add salt also.

Switch off the stove and add the cooked rice and mix everything together gently.

Now delicious chitranna is ready to serve.

Serve with happala( papad) and raita of your choice.
