Tomato gojju
Ingredients
Tomatoes—9 to 10 (medium sized)Wash and chop tomatoes into cubes.
Red chilli powder—1 teaspoon
Jeera powder—1 teaspoon
Coriander powder—1 teaspoon
Jaggery powder(Bella//gud)—1 tablespoon
Salt —to taste
For seasoning (oggarane)
Oil—3 tablespoon
Mustard seeds (sasive)—1 teaspoon
Jeera (jeerige//cumin seeds)—1 teaspoon
Channa dhal (kadale belle)—1 tablespoon
Urad dhal (uddina belle)—1 tablespoon
Turmeric powder (arisina//haldi)—1/2 teaspoon
Asafoetida (hing//ingu)—1/2 teaspoon
Curry leaves—few
Method
Heat the oil in a kadai or pan,on medium flame.
Once hot enough add mustard seeds and jeera seeds.
Let them crackle.
Then add both the dhals,asafoetida.when dhals turns brown add turmeric powder and saute .
Add chopped tomatoes and stir well sprinkling little water.(just a dash of water).
Do not add too much water.
Cover with a lid and let tomatoes cook for 3 to 4 minutes.
Now add red chilli powder,jeera and coriander powder and keep stirring on medium flame.
Finally add jaggery powder and salt.
Cook for a few minutes until everything mixes well.
Don’t cook till tomatoes turns mushy.
Turn off the heat.
Now tomato gojju is ready to serve.
Serve with rice,chapattis,rotti.
