Yellu bella



Ingredients

Jaggery ( achhu bella) or moulded ( gud //bella)—500 gms   Or small pieces —2 cups
Ground nuts or peanuts or kadale kayi bija —250 gms  or 1 cup
Fried gram( hurigadale// roasted gram)—250 gms or 1 cup
Dry coconut ( kobbari)—250 gms. Or chopped( diced)  pieces —1 cup
White seasame seeds ( bili yellu //white til)—250 gms  or 1 cup

Method 

Cut the jaggery into small pieces using an aracanut cutter ( adike katthari).achhu bella is used for this.

In a thick bottomed kadai or pan dry roast kadale kayi bija ( ground nuts) until it starts spluttering or cracking,on low medium flame.
 It will become crispy and light brown.then switch off heat.
Let it cool .then rub and dehusk the roasted ground nuts.

Scrape the outer black skin from dry coconut,(kobbari) using a grater.
Finely chop into small pieces.
After chopping sun dry it.

Dry roast bili yellow ( til) on low medium flame,until swollen.
No need for cracking or spluttering.
The colour of til should not change. Cool it.

Sun dry all the ingredients.

Mix all the ingredients together well.

Store it in an airtight container.

Now yellu bella is ready.

This is a special traditional mixture prepared during Sankranthi festival in Karnataka.

It will be shared with relatives and friends along with fruits,coconut,and sakkare achhu.
