Avare kaalu saaru ((hyacinth ) rasam

Ingredients

Avare  kaalu—2 cups
Grated coconut—1/2 cup
Tamarind soaked in water—small lemon size
Saarina pudi ( menasina  pudi) ( rasam powder)—2 tablespoon recipe here
Jaggery powder (Bella//gud)—1 tablespoon
Jeera (jeerige//cumin seeds)—1 tablespoon
Asafoetida (hing//ingu)—1/2 teaspoon
Turmeric powder (arisina//haldi)—1/2 teaspoon
Curry leaves (karibevu//kadipatta)—few
Salt to taste
Water

For seasoning (oggarane)

Ghee—1 tablespoon 
Mustard seeds (sasive)—1 teaspoon 
Jeera(jeerige//cumin seeds)—1 teaspoon 

Method 

Wash and cook the avare kaalu in pressure cooker for 3 to 4 whistles,on medium flame.

Once the pressure reduces open the lid and remove 1/2 cup of boiled kaalu .

Grind the boiled 1/2 cup avare kaalu along with grated coconut,tamarind soaked,jeera,saarina pudi (rasam powder ),turmeric powder,and asafoetida to a smooth fine paste adding required amount of water.
 Add the ground paste to the remaining cooked avare  kaalu.
Add in salt and jaggery powder ,curry leaves.
Add required amount of water to adjust consistency of saaru.
Mix well ,let it boil on medium flame for 8 to 10 minutes..
Turn of the heat.

Prepare for seasoning (oggarane )

Heat ghee in a laddle,once hot enough add mustard seeds and jeera,when  it stops spluttering pour over saaru.

Mix well.now avare  kaalu saaru is ready to serve.
Serve with cooked rice with ghee.
