Bale dindina palya ( banana stem fry // subji)
Ingredients
Bale dindu chopped —2 cups
Green chillies—2
Curry leaves( karibevu //kadipatta)—few
Coconut grated—1/4 cup
Lemon juice —1 tablespoon
Mustard seeds (sasive)—1 teaspoon
Jeera (jeerige)cumin seeds—1 teaspoon
Channa dhal (kadale belle)—1 tablespoon
Urad dhal (uddina belle)—1 tablespoon
Asafoetida ( hing)—a pinch
Oil—2 tablespoon
Salt to taste
Sugar —1 teaspoon
Method
Peel the outer layers of the bale dindu( banana stem).
Discard the outer layers.
Now cut the stem into horizontal circles,you will find thread like fibres sticking to knife.
Remove fibres using fingers.
Now chop them into pieces and soak them in water adding a spoon of curd or butter milk to avoid discolouration.
Now heat the oil in a kadai or pan,once hot add mustard seeds,jeera ,asafoetida ,channa and urad dhal.
When mustard seeds crackles and dhals turn brown add chopped green chillies,curry leaves and sauté for a minute on medium flame.
Now add chopped bale dindu pieces and add 1/2 cup of water and allow it to cook on medium flame.
Cover with a lid and stir in between.
When stems are cooked and water is evaporated add salt and sugar.mix well.
Add in grated coconut and mix well.
Turn off the heat and add lemon juice .mix it
Now bale dindina palya is ready to serve.
Note
Banana stem is said to be very good in removing toxins from body.
