Kadale belle chutney ( channa dhal chutney)

Ingredients

Kadale belle  ( channa dhal)—3 tablespoon
Dry red chillies—3 to 4
Curry leaves (karibevu//kadipatta)—few
Fresh grated coconut( kayi turi)—1 cup
Tamarind (hunase hannu//imli)—small piece
Jaggery ( Bella//gud)—small piece or 1 teaspoon
Salt to taste
Oil—1 teaspoon

For seasoning (oggarane) 

Ghee—1 tablespoon 
Mustard seeds(sasive)—1 teaspoon 
Urad dhal (uddina belle)—1 teaspoon 
Asafoetida ( hing)—1/2 teaspoon 

Method 

Heat 1 teaspoon of oil in a pan or small kadai,roast kadale belle,red chillies,curry leaves ,on medium flame.
Keep stirring constantly.
 Do not burn the kadale belle.
Roast till kadale belle turns little brown and chillies puffs up.
Switch off the stove.
Add in coconut,tamarind and stir well.

Let it cool .
Add in salt and jaggery.
.transfer the ingredients to a mixy jar and grind to a coarse paste adding sufficient water.
Transfer chutney into a bowl.

to temper

Now  heat ghee in a laddle ,add mustard seeds,urad dhal,asafoetida.
Once mustard seeds crackles,switch off the stove and pour over chutney,mix well.

Serve with dosa// rice//idli.


While eating with rice ,you can add a teaspoon of ghee or oil for taste.
