Aaralu oggarane (uppittu//Upma) puffed rice upma
Ingredients
Aaralu—10 to 12 cupsOil—4 tablespoon
Green chillies—4
Curry leaves (karibevu//kadipatta)—few
Coriander leaves chopped( kothambari soppu)—2 tablespoon
Grated coconut—1/2 cup
Lemon —1 small
Mustard seeds (sasive)—1/2 teaspoon
Jeera(jeerige//cumin seeds )—1/2 teaspoon
Ground nuts (peanuts// kadale kayi bija)—2 tablespoon
Channa dhal (kadale belle)—1 tablespoon
Uddina belle ( urad dhal)—1 tablespoon
Jaggery powder(Bella//gud)—1 tablespoon
Jeera pepper powder—1 teaspoon
Salt to taste
Method
Wash the aaralu ( puffed rice ) in a big bowl in lot of water do not soak ,immediately remove it onto a colander .
Just rinse them in water and squeeze up the water immediately else they turn mushy.
Heat the oil in a kadai or pan ,once hot add peanuts,fry it until golden then add in mustard seeds,jeera,and channa and urad dhal also.
When they are done add green chillies,curry leaves,sauté for a minute.
Now add in aaralu and mix it gently on low flame.
Add salt,jeera pepper powder,jaggery powder and mix it gently.
Add coriander seeds,grated coconut and squeeze lemon juice and mix it.
Turn off the heat .
Now uppittu is ready to eat.
Serve hot .
