Kadale kaalu saaru

Ingredients

Boiled kadale kaalu( sabut channa//  chickpeas)— 1 cup

Fresh grated coconut— 1 cup
Tamarind( hunase hannu// imli) —small lemon sized( soaked in water )
Menasina pudi ( saarina   powder or rasam powder) —2 tablespoon recipe here
Jeera( cumin seeds // jeerige) — 1 teaspoon
Jaggery powder ( gud // Bella)1 teaspoon 
Curry leaves( karibevu// kadipatta) — few

Method

Soak  kadale kaalu overnight .
Next day wash twice add fresh water and boil in pressure cooker for 7 to 8 whistles.
 Once the pressure reduces open the lid of cooker.
Strain and keep water separately .

Grind boiled kaalu,coconut,tamarind ,menasina pudi,jeera,jaggery, all together in a mixer grinder jar  to a smooth paste .

Add  this paste to boiled  strained water and add required amount of water to adjust consistency of saaru.
Add salt and curry leaves.
Boil for 5 minutes.

Garnish with seasoning.

Oggarane(seasoning)

Heat  1 tablespoon of ghee, when hot add a teaspoon of mustard seeds ,jeera,asafoetida .when it stops spluttering pour over saaru  .mix well. 
Serve with hot cooked rice.
